Situation overview
- • The escalating violence in densely populated areas and rapidly worsening security situation are endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
- • Lebanese authorities refer to 1 million people affected, while IOM’s tracking is ongoing and shows that as of 29 September, 346,209 Lebanese and Syrian people have been internally displaced (Source: IOM/DTM).
- • UNHCR has been approached by over 8,500 refugees who have fled their homes and displaced internally in Lebanon during last week week.
- • The most urgent needs currently are access to safe shelters, core relief items, healthcare, food, cash assistance, and protection services.
- • The latest hostilities have resulted in some 1,745 deaths and 8,767 injured, according to the Ministry of Public Health. UNHCR is aware of at least 113 Syrians who were killed (including 40 children and 19 women) and close to 343 injured (including 127 children and 95 women) as a result of this conflict.
- • Over 100,000 people are estimated to have crossed from Lebanon to Syria since the escalation of hostilities in Lebanon. It is estimated that around 70 per cent are Syrians and 30 per cent are Lebanese nationals.

Key highlights
• In support of the Government-led emergency response, the humanitarian community launched a Flash Appeal to enable partners to rapidly deliver humanitarian assistance. The appeal seeks $425.7 million to assist 1 million people affected by the crisis over the next three months.
• As part of the appeal, UNHCR’s financial requirements are estimated at $83 million to cover immediate needs across all vulnerable population groups, Lebanese and refugees.
• UNHCR continues to step up its emergency response and working with partners to provide urgent humanitarian and protection support to families in need.
• UNHCR continues calling on all actors to maintain and apply humanitarian principles and allow equal access to assistance.
