INITIATIVE Ras el NABEH has been active cooking for some 250 displaced persons withour really having an organizational structure. Who needs hierarchy when you are a group of friends supporting a just cause? This can go up to 500 co founder Fadi Ghazzaoui said.

“INITIATIVE Ras el NABEH” (I-ReN)was initiated by a group of friends with the objective to support and help the ReN neighborhood. Due to the calamitous crisis, we are helping now up to 800 families mainly through the distribution of food, cleaning products, clothes, medications, baby stuff, schooling material and anything we can think of.

While the enthusiasm and dedication of a group of friends can be inspiring, there are inherent limitations to providing meaningful and sustainable help without the structure and resources of a non-governmental organization (NGO), that what “INITIATIVE Ras el NABEH” (I-ReN)does. The I-ReN cover all Ras el Nabeh, and our data base is continuously updated, a statement by the group said. With time, to bring together the neighborhood, Initiative ReN is working side by side and in collaboration with Rabitat Ahali Ras el Nabeh Association and IGATHA Ras el Nabeh (Women Issues NGO), Mokhtar Khaled Kaissi and other influential families. Each one of the INITIATIVE members is responsible for a specific task: Kitchen, Food, Medication, Stationery, Cleaning Products, Clothes etc…

What has enabled them to meet our goals since March 2020, were donations that we received from families and friends and support from associations such as Beit al Baraka, Live Love Beirut, Tripoli Charity House, I Stand for Women, The Women Collective, Min Beib la Beib, Mada Association, Achrafieh 2020 and many more, founders said.

One of the projects that they have set up is a kitchen workshop “AKIDINIYA” that you and your team are invited to visit. It is a 150m2 space divided between a fully equipped kitchen followed up by Boecker, a crafts section, and a children’s corner.

The NGO objective is to provide work opportunities to members of the community and guide youth while working on local crafts and preserving traditional knowhow in food produce, such as tomato paste, chili paste, pickles, cookies, etc. that we put out for sale in Ras el Nabeh, to help sustain the workshop. One of the projects that they do each year is to serve daily 500 iftars to our families during Ramadan. The new project is to offer a decent environment for deserving families who could not afford to renew their walls and doors by painting them.

NGOs are committed to creating lasting change and addressing the root causes of problems. They often develop long-term strategies and programs that can have a significant impact on communities over time. While a group of friends can certainly make a difference, the structure and resources of an NGO can amplify their efforts and ensure that their help is sustainable, effective, and accountable. By partnering with an established NGO, individuals can contribute to meaningful change and make a lasting impact on the world.
